DHCP and DNS Settings: Windows XP

  1. Click on the Start menu and select Control Panel. The Control Panel window will most likely display in Category View. If you do not see Pick a category above and to the left of the control panels, select Switch to Category View on the upper right side of the Window. Now select Network and Internet Connections.


  2. Select Network Connections on the lower right side of the Network Internet Connections window.


  3. In the Network Connections window that appears, right click on the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties from the menu.


  4. You should now be looking at the Local Area Connection Properties window.

  5. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click on the Properties button.

  6. Note: If you do not see “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” click on the “Install” button. In the window that appears select “Protocol” and click on the “Add” button. In the next window select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and click “OK.” You may be prompted to restart your computer. When done, proceed with step 4.

  7. Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server automatically should be selected.
