Windows 2000 ResNet Configuration Guide

This information is no longer accurate do to the fact that Bethel has moved to 802.1X network security, which requires different configuration than was previously required. Please see the Network Page for further information.

  1. Locate the “My Network Places” icon on the desktop and right click on it. Select “Properties” from the pop-up menu that appears.


  2. In the “Network and Dial-up Connections” window locate the “Local Area Connection” icon and right click on it.

  3. Select “Properties” from the pop-up menu that appears. This will display the “Local Area Connections Properties” window.

  4. Your computer will need to have “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” installed as shown in the Figure above. If you have the protocol, skip to step 7.


  5. If you do not see this protocol click on the “Install button and select “Protocol from the “Select Network Component Type” window.


  6. Click on the “Add” button and select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) from the list. Click “OK.”

  7. Select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and click on the “Properties” button.


  8. Check to make certain “Obtain IP Address Automatically” and “Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically” are both selected. Click “OK.”


  9. Close the “Local Area Connections Properties” window.


  10. Now go the “Start” menu, select “Settings” and “Control Panel”


  11. In the “Control Panel” window find “System” and double-click on it.


  12. Select the “Network Identification” tab at the top of the window.


  13. Select the “Properties” button on the right side of the window.


  14. In the “Computer name:” field type your bethel email username. In the “Workgroup” field type your dorm name in ALL CAPS ex. “NELSON” (do not type the quotation marks).

  15. After you click “OK” a window will appear asking you to restart your computer.


  16. Click "OK"
