Step 2

Make sure you have the correct network adapter for the building you live in. See Knowledgebase Article 298

Step 3

When you arrive on campus...

Creating Your BU Community Account

Before you can use Bethel’s computers and network, you must first have a Bethel computer account, referred to as your BU Community Account. This account is important because it is used for class registration, checking grades, email and for accessing lab computers, class web pages and fileservers. We strongly encourage you to create your account before you arrive on campus. You can do so the day after Admissions processes your enrollment deposit. To do this you will need:

1.       A computer with Internet access

2.       Your Bethel ID number

3.       Your PIN number (the last 4 numbers of your social security number)*

*If you do not have a social security number or chose not to provide it, please call the Admissions Office at (800) 255-8706, ext. #6242.

Creating and Accessing Your Account

1.       Access your web browser, Internet Explorer or Firefox, and type the following address into the
address field:

https://directory.bethel.edu/account/

When the page is displayed, click on the “Sign Up for a New Account” link and follow the instructions.

2.       After your account is created, you can access your Bethel web based email account at:

https://exchange.its.bethel.edu/

3.       BLink is an important web-based resource for students and you will need to be familiar with it. You access BLink at:

Students Living in Housing using Wired Ethernet

What is used in my building?

If you live in a building using wired Ethernet, you will need an Ethernet network cable. Cables are available at Bethel’s Computer Village, located in the back of the Bethel Bookstore. The cable will look very similar to a telephone cable, but it is slightly thicker and the plug at the end will have 8 pins as opposed to the 2 or 4 pin phone cable. This is an important distinction— telephone cables will not work!

In your dorm you will find several wall “jacks” containing outlets similar to a telephone’s, but with slightly larger holes. When you are ready to register your network connection, connect your computer to the jack you want to use.

Launch your computer’s Internet web browser—you will see the ResNet Registration page.

Follow the instructions on the web page, including the account setup if you have not already done so.

If your computer cannot connect to the above website, check your connections and follow the Bethel ResNet configuration and troubleshooting documents available in the main computer lab (room CC 120).

Students Living in Housing using Wireless WiFi 802.11 b/g

What is used in my building?
Use the software on your computer for the wireless adapter, in most cases this will be the built-in Windows or Macintosh wireless networking software. Search for available networks and select BU Resnet.

If, after following the above steps, you are still unsuccessful, please call the Student Services Help Desk at x6500, located in CC120.
