Blackboard  (Export or Archive)

Blackboard  |  Blackboard Instructor Support

1. In Blackboard Archive your previous semester Blackboard Courses.  Note: Do this for all of your old Blackboard courses and store the archived copies in your server folder or on a CD. Do this even if you have no current plan to re-teach this course. The archived file can be uploaded, either in part or the whole, in a later course.

Go to the Control Panel for the old (previous semester) course controlpanellink7.gif
Click on Archive Course or Export Course in the Course Options area of the Control Panel

In the Export/Archive Manager select either the Archive or Export buttons archivemanger7a.gif
If you selected the Archive button just click submit

If you selected the Export button, then you will need to select materials you want to include within the export.

Please note that NO EMAIL will be sent.  Simply wait 5 - 15 minutes (time depends on size of your course and the activity load on Blackboard.  Then either refresh the Export/Archive Manager window or return to the control panel and click on the Export or Archive Course link to open the Export/Archive Manager window.

When your file shows up in the Export/Archive Manger, then download the linked file  (Windows - right-click; Mac - control-click)

Select a folder to house your downloaded archives so that you know where they are for the next steps. We recommend storing small archives on your Bethel server folder (short term) and storing large archives or permanent archive storage on a CD.

2. Request the creation of your NEW course shell in Blackboard.

Create your new semester's Blackboard course shell using the Blackboard Course Creator Utility available via the ?Help button or the Bethel University Icon in your Blackboard course Menu

The creation process typically takes about 15 minutes, so be patient.

3. Finally, when all that is done, go to your new course shell in Blackboard (http://blackboard.bethel.edu)

Go to the control panel of your NEW course in Blackboard

in your NEW Blackboard course for the current semester

Under Course Options select Import Package course-options7.gif

Select the areas that you want to import.  Note importing discussion boards may require you to clean up old messages.  You will also have to re-publish (deploy) any assessments and assignments in the course area where you want them to appear.

Click Submit and then wait a while for the archive to upload into your new course.

Note: NO EMAIL WILL BE SENT.
