Configuring Entourage 2004 for Exchange

http://kb.its.bethel.edu/articles/369/

Mac users can configure Entourage to access the Exchange server. Entourage X provides only minimal integration with the Exchange server. Essentially only email is functional. Entourage 2004 with the the 11.2 update installed provides a more complete feature list similar to Outlook users. Users should have the 11.2.5 update installed to deal with the certificate issue.

Users with Entourage 2004 and the 11.2.5 update can:

  • Share out their exchange calendar, inbox, and contacts folders
  • Set their own delegate access levels
  • Access others' calendars, inbox, and contacts folders when shared out to them
  • Access Public Folders
  • Send email from off campus using Entourage instead of using Webmail
  • Configure Bethel's LDAP server as a directory service to find Bethel email addresses. KB article 355

Limitations:

  • Doesn't sync Tasks or Notes
  • Entourage calls distribution lists 'groups' and stores them locally instead of on the server. This means that they can't be shared out.
  • The Global Address List which lists all the Exchange users doesn't work, but LDAP can be used instead. Directions for configuring LDAP are available in KB article 355

To configure Entourage 2004 for the Exchange Server:

  • From Entourage's top menu, select Tools and then Accounts from the drop down menu.

  • In the resulting Accounts window, click on the Exchange tab and then the New button similar to figure 1 at right.
