Regardless of the brand of wireless adapter you have, it will come with
software for configuring and monitoring the adapter. In order for your
adapter to work on Bethel’s wireless network you will need to configure
it. The first thing you need to do is locate your configuration
software. Consult your manual if you need help. Once you access the
configuration utility follow the steps below.
Set The Wireless Network Mode
Bethel’s wireless network requires your adapter be configured to
communicate with a wireless access point. Your software will most
likely provide you with an option for Access Point, or Infrastructure. Some software will require you to click an Apply Changes button for the change to take affect. Consult your manual if you need help.
Set the Network Name
In most cases you can enter ANY as the network name. The area where you enter the network name may also be listed as SSID, Service Set Identifier or Current Service Set Identifier. Some software will require you to click an Apply Changes button for the change to take affect. Consult your manual if you need help.
Note: Some adapters may require you to enter an actual network name. If
you need to do this, you will need to use your software’s site survey
feature to locate the access points. When you find them, they will all
have the same name. Type this name into the network name field (SSID).
Other Settings
All other settings should be left in their default state.
Check Signal Quality
Your software should have an option for checking signal strength and/or
link quality. If you don’t have a signal, check your settings and consult
your manual if necessary. Many adapters load a monitoring program into the
system tray in the lower right corner of your display.
This completes the wireless configuration process for Windows. If you have any questions or need further assistance please contact the Help Desk.
