Wireless Configuration Guide For Macintosh OS X (OS 10.x.x)

If your AirPort card is not already installed, do so now by following the instructions provided with it.

Locating An Access Point

AirPort cards generally work seamlessly with wireless networks. The setting you may need to change is the Preferred Network. To do this, follow the steps below.
  1. Go to the Apple menu in the upper left corner of the display and click on it.

  2. Select System Preferences.

  3. Go to the View menu and select Network. The Network window that appears should look similar to Figure 1.

  4. Select the AirPort tab.
Location should be set to Automatic. The Preferred Network may already list the network for your building. If it doesn't:
  1. Click on the down arrow on the right side of the Preferred Network field and select the network named after your building.

  2. Exit from the Network Window.

  3. Go to the System Prefs menu and select Quit System Prefs.

Checking Signal Strength
  1. Go to the Go menu and select Applications. If you don’t see the Go menu, click on the Desktop to change to Finder view.

  2. Find the Internet Connect icon and double-click on it. The window that appears will indicate signal strength. See Figure 2.
