Loan of Notebook Computers to Staff and Faculty Policy

As a service to faculty, especially during travel for professional development, Information Technology Services has available for loan several notebook computer systems, for both Macintosh and PC users. To reserve a system, call the Help Desk at 6500. Questions should be directed to the Director of User Services who is the administrator of the program.

Administration of the program will be governed by the following guidelines:

  • The maximum loan period will be no more than 10 days.
  • A reservation must be made at least two weeks in advance.
  • This program is available to staff and faculty members only.
  • In the event of multiple requests for the same time period, the following categories of priorities will apply:

    1. The nature of the activity: Professional development activity will have priority over personal productivity activity (requests for a machine to learn how to use a new software package will be in the latter category)
    2. The nature of the activity: Professional development activity will have priority over personal productivity activity (requests for a machine to learn how to use a new software package will be in the latter category).
    3. The location of the activity: The order of priority will be (1) out-of-town activity, (2) in-town activity, and (3) on-campus activity.
    4. The total number of requests: A faculty member may request any number of reservation periods during an academic year. However, ITS will guarantee only the first two. After two successful reservations, additional requests will be honored only if another faculty member (with less than two previous reservations for the year) does not request the equipment within two weeks of the checkout date.
    5. Seminary faculty may reserve the equipment when it is not requested by college faculty.
  • In the event of failure of, damage to, or loss of the equipment:

    • ITS will pay the cost associated with any normal component failure.
    • The faculty member will be responsible for other costs such as those due to theft, beverage spills, and accidental breakage.
