Configuring WebDav for Windows

http://kb.its.bethel.edu/articles/137/

My Network Places can be used to connect to network folders from off campus using WebDav. (Prior to 4/20/06 Windows XP users with service pack 2 installed had to use a seperate WebDAV address)

To Configure My Network Places:

  1. Click on My Network Places from the desktop. The My Network Places window should appear.

  2. Click Add a network place. This should present you with the Add Network Place Wizard. Click Next.

  3. In the resulting window, select Choose another network location and then click Next.

  4. Depending on whether you want to access your home folder or your department folder you'll need to type in the corresponding URL into the Address field of the Connect to Server window. Capitalization is important. The * is the capitalized first letter of your username. (For example HomeP would be used for a person with the username psmith)

  5. To connect to your home folder:
    • Type https://bsp-nas-dav.bethel.edu/Home*/username and then click Next.
    • For example https://bsp-nas-dav.bethel.edu/HomeP/psmith

  6. To connect to your department folders:
    • If you don't know the exact name of your departmental network folder, you can use http://fileindex.its.bethel.edu to find out the correct name.
    • Type https://bsp-nas-dav.bethel.edu/Departments/departmentname and then click Next.
    • For example https://bsp-nas-dav.bethel.edu/Departments/CommMktg/
  7. Enter BU\username and password in the resulting window and then click OK.

  8. On the next screen, you can specify a descriptive name of the network place you've just created. Click Next and then click Finish.

After the WebDav server has been added, you can access it again through My Network Places.

  1. Click on My Network Places from the desktop. My Network Places windows should appear.
  2. Double click on the network place you want to connect. You may be asked for a password.
  3. When successful, a window showing your network place should appear. Now you can use standard file operation (drag and drop, or cut/copy and paste) on this window.
