Installing and Using Virex 7.6 or Vrex 7.7 for Mac OS X
Installation
- Download Virex 7.6 (Only for Mac OS 10.3.9 and under) or Virex 7.7 (Only for Mac OS 10.4). You will be prompted for your Bethel username and password before you can download the files.
- Locate that folder on your desktop, or where ever you saved it. You may need to unzip the file before continuing. Go into the folder and
double click the icon that says Virex 7.6.dmg or Virex 7.7.dmg
- A new window should appear, double click on Virex 7.6.pkg (For 10.3.9 and under) or Virex.pkg (Only for Mac OS 10.4
- An Install Virus 7.6 or Virus 7.7 window should appear. Click Continue
- The installation will follow steps indicated by a blue-bulleted
list on the left of the installation windows. On the Readme screen,
you may choose to save the readme file or continue. Click Continue
- Next, you will see a Software License Agreement window. Click Continue
- A message will appear asking whether you agree or disagree with
the terms of the software license agreement. Click Agree
- Now you will have to select a destination for the software to be
installed. In most cases, this will be the main hard drive of your
computer. Click on the icon that identifies your hard drive, and click Continue
- A window to Easy Install the software onto your hard drive
will appear. For the basic Virex 7.6 or 7.7 Install, click Install
- An authentication window will appear. You need to type in
your name and password that you have set up for administrator on your personal
machine (this may not always be your Bethel username and password, depending
on how you set up your machine).
- After successful authentication, an Installer will appear.
- After you see This software was successfully installed click Close
- Your Virex 7.6 or Virex 7.7 software should be successfully installed.
Use
Locate the Virex 7.6 or 7.7 software folder on your hard drive. In
most cases, it will be located in the
Applications folder.
Click on the Icon that says Virex 7.6 or Virex 7.7
You m ay be asked to enter your administrator password to perform
an eUpdate. It is critical to keep your virus definitions updated. Enter
your administrator password to update your virus definitions.
After virus definitions are updated, you will see the main Virex
7.6 or 7.7 program window.
To scan your computer for viruses, select the drive you wish to
scan on the dropdown menu, and click the Scan button to the right
of that menu.
The program will start to scan for viruses.
Scan Your Computer Often
If you click the Preferences Icon, you will be presented with a
menu for scanning preferences. By default, the program is set to scan
and update definitions every time you log into your computer.
